Deaf Commissioning homepage

Welcome to deafcommissioning.co.uk. This is a space to share information about commissioning deaf health services. At the moment it is concentrating on mental health services.

Following the Carter Review of specialised services, SignHealth received funding from the Department of Health for a project on commissioning Deaf mental health services. The aim of the project is to ensure that Deaf mental health services are commissioned well, and in accordance with the Carter recommendations. SignHealth was particularly concerned that mental health services for Deaf people would not be commissioned in some regions. There was also concern that commissioners would focus on in-patient services rather than the broader care pathway.

The project has brought together existing specialist providers and commissioners. Recommendations have been produced, as have basic standards. This site contains minutes of meetings and key documents.

The Sponsoring Group consists of senior people, such as Trust chief executives. The Business Change Managers' meetings bring together people responsible for specialist services within the three NHS Trusts, commissioners and SignHealth.
